When I see blood coming from a cut on my finger, an airplane soaring at 35,000 feet above me, the effects of alchohol, experiencing heartburn from something I ate, being with a person as they breath their last breath - all of these and the many more experiences of life that we have and can yet encounter, leaves me astounded that we can dream such a dream. It gives witness to the potential power we actually possess as a child of God.
To create such an illusion to hide from God is one thing. To create such a powerful illusion that we become lost in and forget our true identity is another thing all together. We have created an illusion that reinforces itself through our belief it is real and therefore we give it more power to continue. We value this illusion because we think this is who we are, and as the Course says over and over again, we only hold the things we value. An extreme example is the value we give illness. Some of us idolize illness because it brings us pity and a pathetic sense of identity. Others value illness to verify how little they feel for themselves. In the end illness is our attack on the body to show God we have power over His Creation.
Do not under estimate the power of this illusion, but at the same time realize the illusion is but a small sample of your true power to create. Do you want and value this sampling, or do you want to experience your true creative power that you inherited from God?
